St. Martin de Porres Parish is sponsoring the 27th Annual Evening with the Toledo Symphony on Feb. 26, 2017 at 5:00 PM at the Church at 1119 W Bancroft Street, Toledo, Ohio. The concert, part of the Black History Month observance and entitled Ain’t-a that Good News? will feature the Clarence Smith Community Chorus in a program of spirituals remembering the special role that they had in the lives of African Americans, especially for those who were slaves.

Ms. Sara Jobin, Resident Conductor of the Toledo Symphony Orchestra, will conduct a program that will invite the audience into the depths and the exhilaration of the spirituals. The symphony will play some popular spirituals including Go down Moses and a Fantasy on Six Spirituals arranged by Gould. In addition, during the second half of the program, the orchestra will perform We Shall Overcome arranged by Armond Wimberly, a native of Toledo. Mr. Wimberly will be present at the concert.
