Padua Center announces the Sixth Annual Urban Chicken Fest, which takes place on June 7, 2014 from 1:00 AM-5:00 PM on-site at 1416 Nebraska Avenue in Toledo. Activities will be behind the Center with the entrance off Junction Street.

This year’s festival will continue the tradition of free children’s games all afternoon. Barbequed chicken dinners, hot dogs and other festival food will be available for sale. A Porch Sale takes place throughout the afternoon featuring many household items, as well as a small flat screen TV, electronics and clothes.

Featured raffle items include a 32″ TV, a 7″Galaxy Tablet 2, a Fujifilm Camera and a Blu-Ray player. Tickets are on sale at Padua Center for $1 each, 6 tickets for $5, or 6 ticket books for $25.

Community resources will be available throughout the afternoon with demonstrations, free materials and community connections. The Urban Chicken Fest provides financial resources for the programs of Padua Center, which is a community-based presence that provides a variety of services to the neighborhood. The Kwanzaa Park Neighbors meet monthly at the Center to plan for improvements in the neighborhood and to support the growth of Kwanzaa Park. The meetings are on the first Thursday of each month at 6:00 PM.

Feeding chickens

Otha Carr, gardener at Padua Center, Ujima Urban Agriculture Project, pauses during the Chicken Fest to feed the pet chickens at the center.

During the school year, Padua Center provides an alternative to suspension for children from local public and charter schools. Padua Center also hosts six summer camps.
