Kwanzaa Park Neighbors House will be leading a celebration of Kwanzaa on Thursday, December 29, 2022, beginning at 4:00 PM at Padua Center located at 1416 Nebraska Avenue in Toledo. Padua Center will host one evening of Kwanzaa in Kwanzaa Park. This cultural festival will feature a candle lighting ceremony, a liberation and calling upon the ancestors. After the ceremony, fellowship will continue until 6:00 PM. Padua Center invites members of the community, as well as city officials.
Ms. Phyllis Toney will welcome guests. Community members will lead the celebration. Kwanzaa, a cultural celebration, is a Liberation Ceremony in honor of ancestors, the lighting of the Kinara, education, family activities, and food to share.
Kwanzaa Park Neighborhood borders Dorr, Brown, Klondike and Hawley Streets. Members of Kwanzaa Park Neighbors meet monthly at Padua Center to investigate ways to work together (Ujima) and improve the neighborhood. Kwanzaa Park Neighbors also functions as a Block Watch site. The next community meeting is February 2, 2023 at 12:00 PM at Padua Center. Regular monthly meetings are held on the first Thursday at 6:00 PM, with the February meeting being held during the day.
