Padua Potters is a unique Gardening Club for children and adults which will provide education, crafts, fun and food. The adults will join in the activities and will follow the process of parents and the elders of the community sharing their knowledge (and learning together) with the next generation.

The first session will involve gathering seeds from flowers to save for spring planting. Members of the club will also create a seed bomb and a sun catcher. The principles of Jane Goodall’s Roots and Shoots program will be part of the curriculum. The program includes guest speakers, videos, and field trips. The initial implementation of the Garden Club will be from November 2022 until June 30, 2023. Meetings will occur every other week until spring, and then will take place every week at a time chosen by members.

Padua Center has an emphasis on gardening and environmental education. A vertical garden, chickens, worms, bees, raised beds and a hoop house (or high tunnel) are part of the Gardening Program at Padua Center. Sister Virginia Welsh, Executive Director of Padua Center and Gardener Roger Whickum will facilitate the Padua Potters Garden Club.

Anyone (child, youth, adult) interested in being involved in the program should call Padua Center at (419) 241-6465 for information, or to sign up for the free club. Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the City of Toledo.
