Music of Scott Joplin, and Jessie Montgomery will be featured at the 33rd Annual “Evening with the Toledo Symphony” held at St. Martin de Porres Church.This concert series is the longest running TSO Neighborhood Concert in the city. There has never been a missed year!
Alain Trudel, Toledo Symphony Music Director, will conduct the concert and will also be the featured trombone soloist on “Symphonic Settings: Caravan, Stardust and Bijou,” arranged by Gene DiNovi.
Sister Sharon Havelak, OSF and Wendi Huntley, Esq. will each receive the St. Katharine Drexel Award. The St. Katharine Drexel Award is given to community members who express the spirit of St. Katharine Drexel’s mission by their dedication and commitment to working with young people in diverse communities. St. Katharine Drexel founded over sixty-two schools and educational institutions, including Xavier University, New Orleans. She was passionate in education and the recipients of this award share in her mission.
Sr Sharon Havelak
Sister Sharon Havelak is a Sister of St. Francis of Sylvania, Ohio. Her life has been marked by three passions: her faith, which has blossomed in the embrace of Franciscan spirituality, a love of beauty and a Gospel-fed thirst for justice. She is an artist, educator, and long-time peace activist.
Wendi Huntley Esq
Wendi Huntley, Esq. is president of Connecting Kids to Meals. During her seven-year tenure, Ms. Huntley has been and is responsible for fundraising, community engagement, marketing, and brand management initiatives. Connecting Kids to Meals provided about 760,000 healthy meals to kids last year and has been feeding hungry kids for over nineteen years. Connecting Kids to Meals was originally founded as Feed Lucas County Children and began in the St. Martin de Porres cafeteria kitchen! It is significant that Ms. Huntley be honored at Saint Martin de Porres where Connecting Kids to Meals began.
