Fun, food, and entertainment is on the agenda for the 15th Annual Urban Chicken Fest sponsored by Padua Center, a neighborhood community center located at 1416 Nebraska Avenue. The Tin Man’s famous BBQ chicken is the featured entrĂ©e for the dinner. Various side dishes, hot dogs, bratwurst, and drinks are also to be served. Serving will begin at 12:00 (noon) until 3:00 PM at St Martin de Porres Catholic Church located at 1119 West Bancroft Street on the corner of Bancroft Street and Detroit Avenue.
In addition to delicious food, there will be entertainment provided by My5tery Music Drumline, various dance teams, plus the opportunity to play chess, cards, children’s games, and a Bouncy House for the children. Mercy Community Outreach will provide blood pressure checks and various vendors will be there with information on numerous topics.
At 3:00 PM there will be a drawing for three prizes. The First Prize is a Chrome Book; Second Prize is a Lorex Doorbell Security System, and finally the Third Prize is a Cuisinart Soft Serve Ice Cream Maker. Tickets are $1.00 each, 6 for $5.00. Six books of tickets (36 tickets) sell for $25.00. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Padua Center at (419) 241-6465 or by purchasing them at the Festival.
Padua Center offers after school tutoring during the school year and summer camps for seven weeks during the summer. All programs are open to any child. The Center offers specialized tutoring, environmental education, and games during the summer. Other Padua Programs are Padua Potters, Emerging Young Ladies, and Running with Padua. In addition, Padua Center hosts the Kwanzaa Park Neighbors’ monthly Block Watch meeting, and a weekly NA meeting.
