Padua Promoter 2020

Harvey SavagePadua Center announces that Harvey Savage, Executive Director of the Martin Luther King Center Kitchen for the Poor, is the Padua Promoter of 2020. Padua Center will present the award on October 11, 2020 at 6:30 PM via Zoom.

Mr. Savage, son of Rev. H.V. Savage, took the reign of the Martin Luther King Center Kitchen for the Poor from his father, the founder. He remains involved with the Kitchen for the Poor as both a volunteer and executive director.

Mr. Harvey Savage serves the community through his work as Board President of the Community Shares of Northwest Ohio and Chairman of the Hunger Task Force. Savage is also a member of the TARTA Board and the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance.

He is a recipient of numerous awards including the Robert Brundage Award for Community Service, the Calla Lilly Award, the Buckeye Cable System’s VIP of the year.

In addition, Mr. Savage is known for his deep commitment to Jesus, stating, “I have personally spent most of my life in some type of Church setting, a faithful believer in God.” He is committed to his neighborhood and serves on the Junction Coalition.

He is the father of seven children and the grandfather of seventeen. He and his wife, Giselle Jordan Savage has been married for 30 years.

Keynote Speaker: Mr. Carty Finkbeiner, Former Mayor of Toledo

Carty FinkbeinerMr. Carleton Finkbeiner, former Mayor of Toledo and presently Treasurer of the Padua Center Board, will be the keynote speaker for Peaces of Art on Zoom.

Mr. Finkbeiner, through his skill and determination assisted Padua Center in a number of physical improvements, including a new roof, a complete re-painting of the Center, re-installation of the ramp and he is presently raising funds for the expansion of programs for children.

Mr. Finkbeiner has a passion for improving and preserving the city of Toledo, especially for historically important neighborhoods. In 2018, he joined with several political leaders, including Representative Marcy Kaptur and Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz to protest the demolition of St. Anthony Church. With the same political alliance, he is presently leading a coalition to preserve the University of Toledo Medical College.

The future of our city lies in the hands of the youth and Mr. Finkbeiner gives his time and effort to support Connecting Kids to Meals and the Padua Center and its outreach to children and the neighborhood.
